(My theme for the A-Z challenge is places, things and people around Chicago)
XRT used to be an independent radio station for many years, until they were bought out by CBS. The format is extremely eclectic. While their Facebook page calls them “Chicago’s Finest Rock,” you’ll hear everything from blues, jazz, rock, reggae, punk, new wave and whatever else you can imagine. We’ve heard Bob Marley, Led Zeppelin, BB King, the Ramones and Janis Joplin all in one set. They are not hung up on a decade either as they’ll play bands like Death Cab for Cutie, Muse, Coldplay and that too. XRT is also a big supporter of Indie bands and you can find them at street festivals and sporting events.
Some highlights: Breakfast with the Beatles Sunday mornings and Saturday morning flash backs.
Here is an interesting factoid: Tom won tickets to see Soul Asylum from XRT and had a real cool experience with the band. He wrote that up for my blog a year ago or so. It really is worth a read!
We’ll be motoring up that way in another month or so, and we’ll be in range of XRT. Thanks!
You can also stream them online from anywhere.
I love stations that feature unknowns and Indie music. So valuable.
That’s a really wide variety. So many just stick to one narrow format.
I love radio stations that play tunes from every walk of life. Our local college radio station is the best for that in my neck of the woods!

Fun post! I don’t remember that station but would probably like it! ~Angela
